【 Travel 】Four places of currency exchange when you travel in Taiwan

When you are traveling, one of the most important things is that you always need to carry enough money with you. Of course, paying by credit card is very convenient but not all the places accept this kind of payment term. In Taiwan, the government has restricted regulation of currency exchange so there are only certain places for you to exchange the currency. Yet don’t worry, these places are not that difficult find and won’t cause too many troubles during your trip to Taiwan.

Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport

This airport will be where you are at the moment when you just arrived Taiwan, so if you forget to exchange currency before your flight, you can find Bank of Taiwan in the airport. There are three places in total:

  • Terminal 1-1F ( non – controlled area )
  • Terminal 1-1F ( Arrival Area )
  • Terminal 2-1F ( Arrival Area )

All of them are 24 hr open so whenever you arrive, you can always have your money exchange and start your trip with a wallet full of fresh NTD.

Banks

After leaving the airport, bank is one of the few places for currency exchanging. Although there are banks everywhere, it is better for you to note that it might take you lots of time to wait in line and get your money exchange. However, compare to some hotels and malls, banks indeed are better places for money exchange since the rate is better.

Hotels/Malls

These two places may be the most convenient places for the need of currency exchange during your trip. This kind of service is only for foreign visitors when their passports will need to be examined or shown. Yet it seems that you can only get a little amount of money exchange here and only USD, HKD, GBP, CAD, SGD, JPY, EUR, and RMB are provided (you can see that hotels and malls have much more rules than banks when it comes to currency exchange). Also the rate is not as good as the rate in the bank so you may get less money than you expected.
