Many backpackers and expats in Taiwan named Tainan their favorite city because of its laid-back atmosphere and traditional charm. But you’re wrong if you think that’s all you can find! Tainan has become the new nest of young hipsters, creative spaces, quaint craft shops and cafes scattered between the red brick walls and tile pathways.
Tainan is a popular day trip destination for everybody; foodies, families, honeymooners, solo travelers and art lovers. If you’re not spending the night, find a luggage storage locker near the train station to enjoy the city on foot or bus before you hop on the next train. Anping Treehouse – Take a rest under the giant Banyan Tree roots
Built at the end of the 19th century, Anping Treehouse was an abandoned warehouse before it was renovated in 2004 by the government. Wooden stairways and metal bridges were constructed for visitors to climb up the building and enjoy the full view of these amazing old trees.

Blueprint Cultural & Creative Park – Take a walk and explore creative shops and mural art
Like many creative parks in Taiwan, Blueprint Cultural & Creative Park was transformed from idle buildings into a popular destination to explore the latest design, craft, independent brands, and cafes. This is a place to find souvenirs that are local and one of a kind. Besides shopping, there are plenty of free photo spots to take funny and surreal photos!
Tainan Art Museum – Take a selfie with the shinning white art museum opened in 2019
The new favorite of the city, Tainan Art Museum has been flooded with visitors since it’s opening in January 2019. The modernist building is covered in white from inside out, the glass ceiling casts beautiful geometric shadows and allows plenty of sunlight inside the museum, making it a perfect backdrop for selfie-takers.
