Tiehua Village
Located in Taitung, Tiehua Village was originally an old warehouse of Taiwan Railways Administration before 2010. It was turned into a music and art tribe after the promotion of the International Spotlight project. Tiehua Village is famous for the local aboriginal music, pop music concerts, and the aboriginal handicraft market. With the creative art installation surrounding you, you can sit under the trees or on the lawn and let the music flow into your heart with the slow breeze and enjoy the leisurely passing of time. When the night arrives, you’re going to experience an alluring atmosphere with all the colorful small lanterns.
To get to Tiehua Village, you can go along Taiwan Route 9 to Taitung city and then turn at Tiehua road with your own car or scooter. You can also take the Ding Dong bus and stop at the visitor center and walk for 3 minutes or take the city bus Puyuma and stop at the Tiehua Village stop and then turn right after walking 50 meters in the direction of Xinsheng Road.
Orchid Island
If you want to put yourself into a more tranquil place to embrace the serenity and paradise-like nature, definitely go to Orchid Island (Lanyu). Being a small island which you can easily ride a scooter around for 37 kilometers, it provides not only the picturesque views of the ocean and mountains, multiple activities such as snorkeling, diving, and hiking but also the most traditional and preserved Tao aboriginal tribes and their cultures. The most popular and biggest Tao festival in Orchid Island is Flying Fish Festival from March to July. When the flying fishes arrive with the current of Kuroshio, Tao men wear their traditional thongs and silver helmets to pray for the harvest of flying fishes, while women are prohibited to touch the canoes during the festival but they assist with killing and drying the flying fishes.
