Taipei MRT

Taipei MRT opened the first line in 1996 and it just welcomed it’s 10 billionth passenger. It is now an indispensable part of every Taipei citizen’s daily life. There are currently five main routes that almost link every place in Taipei city together. You can easily explore Taipei city by taking Taipei MRT.

The only thing you have to keep in mind is that unlike the subway in the US, passengers are not allowed to eat, chew gum and drink(even water) on the Metro or in stations.

Routes and Operation Time

There are 5 lines, Brown, Red, Green, Orange and Blue line, in the Taipei Metro. The major transfer station is Taipei Main Station and Zhongxiao Fuxing Station. Although these two stations will be crowded during peak time, the clear direction indication can still prevent you from getting lost.

Taipei Metro doesn’t operate 24 hours a day. The opening hour is from 06:00 to 00:00. Please don’t forget to catch the last train.

Attractions around the MRT Station

You can go to every tourist attraction in Taipei by taking the MRT. For instance, the well-known Yongkang Street is at the Dongmen station. You only have to take a few more steps to taste the famous mango ice and Din Tai Fung soup dumplings; If you want to go to Taipei 101 and enjoy the spectacular nightscape, just take the MRT to the Taipei 101–World Trade Center. Taipei Metro can make your journey in Taipei effortless and convenient.

  • Single-Journey-Ticket

The Single-Journey-Ticket of Taipei Metro costs from NT$20-NT$65 (depend on the distance) and it can be bought at the kiosk at every station. Travelers can also buy the One-day Pass(NT$150), 24hr Taipei Metro Pass (NT$180), 48hr Taipei Metro Pass (NT$280) or 72hr Taipei Metro Pass (NT$380). at the information desk at any station information desk.

  • Joint ticket of Taoyuan Airport MRT

Joint ticket of Taoyuan Airport MRT and Taipei Metro (NT$600)is available as well. You can get this ticket at the information counters of Taoyuan Airport MRT station A1, A12 and A13.

  • Easy Card

If you planned to stay in Taipei for a longer period of time, you can buy the Easy Card(NT$100 for a new one). After you top up the EasyCard, you can take MRT and bus and rent the YouBikes. You can even buy stuff at the convenience store !
