【 Travel 】5 Recommended Spots in Taipei for Art Enthusiasts

1 . Taipei Fine Arts Museum

With an all white , modern , multi-cubic exterior , the Taipei Fine Arts museum is unquestionably one of  Taiwan’s most prominent art centers . It showcases the very best local Taiwanese as well as international art and provides emerging artists a space to exhibit their work . With a mission to promote , preserve and popularize , it dedicates to raise the general public’s understanding and participation in art .

Inside of  Taipei Fine Arts Museum are four floors of exhibition halls to explore . It contains tons of inspiring art-pieces from on-paper paintings to digital work . Some of my favorite recent exhibitions are Post-Nature Taipei Biennial ( 2018.11.17 – 2019.03.10 ) and Musica Mobile — A Poetic of Sound and Movements ( 2019.04.13 – 2019.07.14 ) . Plan a visit and check out their current exhibitions at their webpage below !

2 . Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei ( MOCA )

This historical red-brick building was constructed in 1921 , under the Japanese colony and was originally an elementary school for predominantly Japanese students . In recent years , the place was renovated as the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei ( MOCA ) , displaying works of many artistic talents . The museum often organizes themed exhibitions , ranging from non-mainstream filmography to carved sculptures . It focuses on promoting solely contemporary art , bringing innovation , creativity and entertainment into the ancient colonial building as it perfectly combines the past , present and future .

By the way , MOCA Taipei situates near Taipei Main Station , making it is easily accessible for travelers and art lovers , so don’t hesitate to stop by for a visit . This place is not to be missed !

Huashan 1914 Creative Park was formally a wine distillery factory constructed in the 1920s . After undergoing a large-scale transformation , this artsy area full of photographers , street performers and artists was finally born . The park has plenty of space , with some being built as restaurants , cafes , creative workshops while others are used as exhibition halls or even concert venues . Exhibitions here are often international , including Artist Jason Freeny’s Asia Tour, Tatsuya Tanakas Miniature Life Exhibition and the current Kaleidoscope showcase . If you’re still planning your itinerary , this park is a must-visit .

4 . Songshan Cultural and Creative Park

Songshan Cultural and Creative Park is definitely an ideal spot to spend an entire afternoon with friends and family . Much like Huashan 1914 Creative Park , this place was also constructed back in the Japanese colonization as the “ Sōtokufu Tobacco Monopoly Bureau ” . It was transformed into a creative hub and renamed as it is today in 2001 , when the government decided to turn it into a cultural heritage site . Since then , it has gathered plenty of artistic talents across Taiwan , letting creativity continue to thrive .

Songshan Cultural and Creative Park holds various exhibitions from those of in-school architecture and fashion design students to solo- exhibitions of well-known painters . Other than galleries , they also have cafes , restaurants , book stores and creative labs inside inside the park , making it a wonderful place for recreation .

Treasure Hill is a peaceful oasis hidden among the heart of noisy Taipei . It provides an open space to Taiwanese artists , writers , critics and individuals interested in art to display work and express creativity . Apart from this , they created a residency program which allows artists to dwell in the village . Once you step into this enchanting area , you will immediately feel a strong artistic atmosphere deeply rooted in the daily lives of the residents . If you want to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city , come here and drench yourself in art . Treasure hill will not let you down .
